Invest in Youth

The Invest in Youth project supports young people aged 15–24 who are unemployed or economically inactive, including those who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) or at risk of becoming NEET.

Invest in Youth is a three-year programme to work with 1100 young people in Lancashire to help them into employment or training. The project is delivered by a partnership of 13 predominantly community, voluntary and social enterprise sector organisations across Lancashire. Skilled Key Workers provide intensive support to each person based on an assessment of their individual interests and barriers to entering work or further learning.

What are the benefits?

This project will improve skills and employability by tackling the often complex barriers that are specific to this age group: including benefit dependency, poor health, disability, caring responsibilities, low skills and self-esteem and lack of employment experience.

By enabling access to a range of guidance, information, volunteering, training, employment and enterprise activities, the Invest in Youth project will improve the skills and employability of participants – and in doing so will inspire young people to see past their barriers, broaden their horizons and to open up new opportunities.

Who is it for?

Invest in Youth is a project supporting young people who are aged 15–24 and not in employment, education or training (NEET). This includes young people at risk of becoming NEET and ‘hidden’ NEETs (i.e. young people who are NEET but not formally recorded as such). For some people, it can be about knowing where to go for support or increasing motivation and self-esteem for those who lack positive role models and relevant skills and experience.
