Councillor Mark Townsend
Councillor Mark Townsend was first elected as a Burnley Borough Councillor in 2004 and was appointed Leader of the Council in June 2014 having previously held the Resources portfolio.
His career job is with Hyndburn Borough Council where he has been employed since 2010 as a Systems Manager. He has had a varied career prior to that starting off at 16 as a Mining Engineer with British Coal before moving on to BAE Systems as an Executive focused on the in-service support of military aircraft. In 2001 he joined a start up software development company in the Preston area as General Manager.
He has spent the whole of his adult life living in the Burnley area and has previously held Governor positions at two secondary schools in the area.
His Burnley administration is focused on growing the local economy and he sees the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership as key to delivering the means for Lancashire to compete in a fast changing highly competitive world.
