Dr Lis Smith

Principal and Chief Executive of Preston’s College

Dr Lis Smith joined Preston’s College in January 2011 as Principal and Chief Executive.  The College is rated Ofsted “Good” in its most recent inspection and has maintained its position within the top 10 FE Colleges nationally, as measured by the Government’s Quality Achievement Rates league tables.  Lis is Chair of the City Deal Skills and Employment Board and a member of the Lancashire LEP Skills and Employment Board.

Lis joined the Further Education sector following a career in education, skills and employment in Higher Education and at the Northwest Development Agency. Having started life as a research and development chemist, this has provided the grounding for engaging with both industry and the public sector, something that is fundamental to the College and its demand-led, employment focused agenda, and being responsive to learners’ and businesses’ needs.
