Support Lancashire Care Leavers

Could you play a positive role in a young care leaver’s progression through work experience, one-to-one mentoring or other employment opportunities?

You may already be offering a number of pledges to young people but could you extend these to a young person who has been or is in care? Statistically children from care to less well in employment than their peers and need more support in starting their career. Your knowledge and experience can make a difference to the options a young person considers for their future career. You could be the role model who changes a young person’s life, just by showing what is possible. You will be fully supported by the Lancashire County Council Virtual School team and can sign up to the National Care Leaver Covenant.

There are many different ways to play a positive part in a young care leaver’s progression and the nature of your organisation may help to define your offer. For instance, it could be in the form of work experience, one-to-one mentoring, access to sport, education or technology, Apprenticeships or employment opportunities.

Once signed up to the Skills Pledge a member of the Care Covenant team will contact you to see if you wish to join the National Care Covenant as well. This is optional and either way following this a Lancashire Virtual School team member will make contact to see what you are offering and add you to our Care Experienced offer database.

We have experienced some challenges along the way, and have learned that by working with the Apprentice and their strong support network, we can remove almost any obstacle to

the Apprentice achieving their qualification. The support of LCC has been invaluable during this process. This work has been rewarding for both parties and satisfies our companies
