Be an Enterprise Adviser

Enterprise Advisers are experienced people who may be employed, self-employed or retired, who volunteer to work closely with a specific school or college to motivate and support young people in their career aspirations.

The role

As an Enterprise Adviser you will work to support the development of a whole school strategy for careers, enterprise and employer engagement. The Enterprise Advisers are brought together and form the Lancashire Enterprise Adviser Network. The network comprises of volunteers from all walks of life with all different types of working experiences who collectively share a passion to ensure all our young people are provided with and have the opportunity to be the best they can be.

The role of an Enterprise Adviser is to support and work with an individual school or college, and their senior leadership teams in shaping the schools’ career strategy, you are there to provide an external voice and to be the schools’ critical and supportive adviser. You will also able to use your own network and contacts to support a school’s career activities, and you may chose to be directly involved in supporting career activities.

In turn these inspirational activities with local employers, that you have helped create, will inspire young people to make informed decisions and make the right career decisions for themselves.

You will agree an appropriate amount of time with your school or college, however, a good guide is at least two meetings (virtual or face to face) per term, for at least one academic year. There will also be communication and some additional activity outside of these meetings.

The support you will receive

You will be fully supported by a team of full time Enterprise Coordinators who will provide you with a full induction, training and match you with a local school or college.

Enterprise Coordinators offer you ongoing support and guidance to manage your relationships with your matched school or college effectively, as well as provide you with the opportunity to network with other Enterprise Advisers and share good practice.
