Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students & Teaching)

Professor Andrew Ireland is the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students & Teaching), a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Group at the University of Central Lancashire, providing strategic leadership in the areas of student experience, teaching excellence, curriculum design, student support services, academic quality assurance, access and participation, and equality, diversity and inclusion.

Andrew joined the University in September 2013 as the Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication. He then led the new Faculty of Culture and the Creative Industries for four years, before taking on a Pro Vice-Chancellor role providing strategic leadership and vision for the digital and creative industries, overseeing the Faculty of Culture and the Creative Industries and the Faculty of Science and Technology. In November 2019 Andrew took up his current role as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students and Teaching).

Prior to this, Andrew worked in the broadcast industry and held a number of academic posts in television production before moving into academic management in the Media School at Bournemouth University. In 2004 he became a National Teaching Fellow in the “Rising Stars” category for his HEFCE-funded work in group work assessment in media practice.

Andrew has a Bachelor of Honours degree in Media Production, and a PG-Cert in Professional Development. He was awarded a PhD in 2012 for a practice-based thesis entitled Conditions of Time and Space: A Re-enactment Experiment with the British TV Series Doctor Who. He is currently the Chair of Future U, the Uni-Connect partnership operating across Lancashire.

Andrew is a passionate advocate of the transformative potential of education and life-long learning.
